Datsuzoku, unconventional break through, awakening
Dave Platford, was born in Oakland, California on April 5, 1978. He began drawing and painting while on safari in Kenya at age four. The magic of the wilderness planted seeds of inspiration that would later grow into full bloom. Years later, his pursuit to see the world brought him back to Africa where the ancient landscapes, wild animals, and rustic village scenes compelled him to get serious about art, finding ways to manifest his vision. Upon finishing his studies of environmental studies at UC Santa Cruz in 2000, he launched into a backpacking journey all over India, and then to the mountains and temples of China, Japan, Vietnam, as well as to the desert landscapes and historical sites of Egypt and Morocco. At the Academy of Art University he studied the traditional and contemporary oil painting techniques of Realism, Pop-Art, Abstract Expressionism, Surrealism, Graphic Design, Street Art, Eastern Aesthetics, New Media and Motion Graphics. Ultimately he went his own direction, developing a unique poetic visual language with paint. Dave has been living in California, Hawaii, and the Southwest raising his daughter Akala, sharing his love of nature and contemplating the essence of life.
