I do sketches in pen & ink and pencil. I love watercolors and acrylic. This is an example of inspired sittings. I think using a view from behind a subject gives more to the imagination of the one viewing the work. It is one of my early works. I used pencil and pen to begin the sketch and then watercolors to express the feel and accent the subject. It has a simplistic, naive approach which almost makes me feel awkward, but it also is what makes me appreciate my work which is always in progress. I feel we should always be open to grow and change. Thank you for viewing.

My name is Dan Grimmett. I began my art experience in childhood living in Texas, Arkansas, and in the Deep South. The earthy richness of the land is a magnetic attraction to me, as are the complex characters of the people. The South has a richness and melodramatic drama that provides many artistic venues. The West challenged my eye to see beauty in a different way. As an adult I travel the western U.S. and spend a lot of time in San Francisco and the bay area. I love the outdoors and the amazing beauty I see be it in the desert, the mountains, the forest or on the water of lakes, rivers and oceans. I do sketches in pen & ink and pencil, and I love watercolors and acrylic. And I am always trying new media. My passion is breeding Arabian horses. I believe animals are amazing creatures and we are all one. Horses are my favorite subject to paint. I also love to sail, and paint sail boats. I love the water and the freedom it offers as does art. I find people the most difficult subject to capture in a reality sense, and I attempt to capture a feeling more than a portrait. I let the painting tell the story of the person. My art like myself continues to grow, and change. Thank you for visiting my portfolio. ~ Dan
