Ready to Hang

This is literally half of a watermelon I was slicing up on our back deck. Loved how the light struck the translucent pulpy pink fruit, was inspired to paint on the spot. While realistic and painterly, it has a somewhat abstract composition with the semi-circular shape dominating a composition anchored with the diagonal deck boards in the background. This artwork can work in a kitchen, bar area, man cave or any space with a casual feel. Light and colorful and fun to look at. A gallery wrapped canvas ready to hang, no frame required.

There’s no doubt that Craig Ford’s twenty five years of work in advertising, graphic design and other various forms of media are reflected in his creative style. Whether it’s the color, the composition or the subject matter, the pieces have a certain pop that immediately and actively engage the viewer. Ford has, in particular, mastered the pop-art genre in his creations of artwork out of simple everyday items from a grocery store: the iconic Coco-Cola bottle, a can of Café Bustelo, McKinney’s hot sauces, Chaquita bananas…all are done in intense hues and off-balanced angles. He has fine-tuned the creative process of finding the extraordinary in ordinary objects. His most current series utilizes his preferred medium of oil, but evolves it to a new stage by incorporating vintage photography and a layered painting and drawing. Mr. Ford seeks to engage the viewer's eyes, as well as their mind by enhancing the visual meaning of the ordinary through a “fine art” treatment of the subject while also emphasizing being individualized without being abstract and viewing art conceptually, as well as allegorically.
