It's not uncommon to see a broad range of styles in my artwork across a span of many years. There are many artists that I admire, and I'm interested in pursuing not their style, but what it is that made the style that they eventually arrived at a necessity for their artistic expression. I therefore have had Monet, Turner, Daumier, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Bernie Fuchs "phases", where my works would have an undeniable resemblance to their schools. I extract a little bit of skill and perspective from each artist and compile them, arrange them, and modify them to make my own.
I'm a Californian currently living in Atlanta. In the years of 2011 and 2012 I have the opportunity of spending an unforgettable year in the South of France in the city of Aix-en-Provence where I studied art history for the first time, and learned to look at art works and look at nature through a more mature and inquisitive lens. It was then when I learnt of what the pioneering artists were trying to achieve, and I try to pursue not their subject matters, nor their styles, but their principle. I see painting as a never ending process of self discovery, and a discovery of the relationship of myself and the world.
