Hulings was as revered for his roses as much as he was for his donkeys. This lovely still life shows us why. It has it all: flat lighting to "delineate the subtle values of the petal," as Clark put it himself, and plenty of texture and loose brush strokes in the background juxtaposed against very detailed work on the Chinese porcelain box resting on the right. The onion and stray branch are a mini-composition all their own.
All giclées are limited edition, stretched on canvas, numbered, stamped and registered by the Clark Hulings Estate, and arrive with a certificate of authenticity.
"Hulings..adds light as protagonist in every canvas...He describes the air itself." —Christian Science Monitor The Clark Hulings Estate Estate exists to support Clark Hulings' place in the canon of American master painters, and to support collectors, auction houses, galleries, dealers, and museums by providing a central resource for information, licensing, reproductions, and sales support.
