The reason I chose the title for this piece was for the time of day this painting takes place. I love that magic hour when the light is softer and things around us begin to glow.
I was inspired to paint this piece from memories of hiking along the trails here in Northern California. This birch grove along the path made such strong shadows on the path, I had to put it on canvas. I felt the shadows were pulling me along and up the trail.
This is painted in oils on special Arches paper for oil painting. It is a thick and sturdy paper that is archival and holds the paint very well. It is signed on the back.
I am a painter. I have loved painting all my life. I studied Art and Art History at UC Berkeley, and have been painting professionally ever since. I have shown in galleries and museums all over California, and have sold hundreds of paintings all over the world, from New York, to Finland and Qatar. I am inspired by nature, color and emotion. Hopefully you will get a sense of calm, happiness, or wonder from what I paint. I'm not out to make political statements with my work, but to express joy and gratitude of life through the medium of oil paints. Claire Whitehead
