Ready to Hang
This piece was inspired by the idea of "kitchen gardens" with their mix of flowers and vegetables and paths that invite you to wander around. Each path takes you to a unique but related vista of colors and textures.
This one-of-a kind art quilt is made out of cotton batik fabrics which bring their own unique look to the piece. It is ready to hang in a special place in your home or office. There is a pocket and dowel with wire on the back of the quilt so that it can hang on regular picture hooks.
I always wanted to be able to draw and paint, and I always admired those who were able to see an object and render it realistically on paper with pencils or paint. I was never able to do so. However, over time I realized I could make art with fiber – grasses for baskets, yarn for weavings, fabric for quilts. I made my first quilt when I was in graduate school - a simple strip-pieced “Around the World” quilt. From the very beginning I was concerned mostly about the colors – for that quilt I wanted to achieve a smooth gradation of color in the fabric choices. Since then, I have taken a series of workshops from nationally and internationally renowned artists. I am always fascinated with their creative process and how they work. I’ve adopted bits and pieces of how they work into my own. While some quilters use fusing techniques for their quilts that allow them to render realistic landscapes, I use traditional piecing techniques to obtain a result that is more abstract.
