I have hardly any formal education in visual arts. Beyond the taught concepts of being observant and gesture-line drawing, I am entirely self-taught. For me, creating art is about process, and art isn’t intrinsically tied to advocacy. I want themes and underpinnings to arise organically, as subconscious manifestations of my efforts to connect with what I feel. To this end, I allow myself to get lost within my interaction with my materials. I follow my deepest instincts, and try to reconcile my conscious mind with that part of me that has no name, the part that is not really me, but simply “is.” I work with that which haunts me, in all of my art. Nothing’s too strange; nothing’s too ordinary. The beautiful paradox is that by focusing on my own connections to the work, I find that I’m able to create objects to which others can connect as well. And so, I do this to satisfy myself, and the satisfaction comes from the doing.
My name is Christopher Cascio. I am a painter, illustrator, English professor, writer, and editor based in New York and Pennsylvania. I specialize in portraiture, but work with whatever subject matter and media that captivates me. I do take commissions, and thank you for visiting my portfolio.
