One of the amazing sisters from the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. Depending on your starting point, the sisters welcome you to the Valley of Fire or bid you farewell. They seem improbable the way the stand, so different to all that is around them, just plopped into open space. I truly believe this is where nature shows its creativity. How else does their existence even make sense?
I am a professional artist who is mostly interested in painting with oils on canvas. I can still remember the day I had made a zoo out of animals cut out of paper and my mother on the phone cringing and saying “Heaven help us, we have an artist in the making”. I still make her cringe on occasion, but I think the sarcasm has been lost as success has found me more and more. I attended Parson’s School of Design and happily made 14th Street and University Place my college corridors. After graduating I held my bohemian artist dreams tightly in hand and continued to live in Manhattan, in a tiny little apartment/studio and have fond memories of walking 5’ x 6’ paintings down the sidewalks on their way to be seen or sold. Once the struggle became a little to crazed I found myself back in Jersey, the one place I said I would never be. Actually, what I always said was, “I am never living in Jersey, I am never getting married, and I am never having children” Well, I learned to never say never, and have been happily living, loving, and creating in New Jersey ever since. It is here where I was reacquainted with nature and the beauty of the world around us. I dropped the scary, politically based artwork of my youth, and have been developing a duet with nature and paint. I have found that I can affect people with beauty and nuance as much as I could with shock and statements. I do not stuff myself in a box, and sometimes bold statements filter their way into my work, as I will always have a soul that is triggered to create by both negative and positive experiences. My goal is to make art with soul, that is truthful, honest and real.
