I try to follow my heart and do what I love, It's not always easy. The challenges life presents can make me reluctant to to do so. I start having doubts and over analyze every detail. However, my heart wants what it wants. I painted it on a 2 inch deep Ampersand Aquabord hard board panel with watercolor. The finished painting is sealed with an archival, UV resistant, clear acrylic.
My work is emotionally layered, messy, textured, and rhythmic in thought. Much like an improvised solo, scattered color often moves freely in and out of the structured chord progression, of an idea, and/or feeling. I enjoy using colorfully sewn characters in my paintings to make lighthearted statements of frustration, motivation, love, lust, and absurdity. However, there are moments in my work where the process, of emotional release, is more important than the idea. The meaning is then left for the viewer to ascertain. In any case, a layered improvised mess of scratchy lines and colorful noise invade each piece creating a sense of movement and musicality. I currently live and work in Minnesota and hold a Bachelors in Fine Art from the College of Visual Arts in Saint Paul MN.
