Ready to Hang
This piece was an exercise in being expressive and loose. I painted quickly. It's about capturing a feeling more than about capturing each and every detail. I painted it on 1/8 inch deep Ampersand Aquabord with watercolor. A float mount is attached to the back for easy hanging without a frame. The finished painting is sealed with an archival, UV resistant, clear acrylic.
My work is emotionally layered, messy, textured, and rhythmic in thought. Much like an improvised solo, scattered color often moves freely in and out of the structured chord progression, of an idea, and/or feeling. I enjoy using colorfully sewn characters in my paintings to make lighthearted statements of frustration, motivation, love, lust, and absurdity. However, there are moments in my work where the process, of emotional release, is more important than the idea. The meaning is then left for the viewer to ascertain. In any case, a layered improvised mess of scratchy lines and colorful noise invade each piece creating a sense of movement and musicality. I currently live and work in Minnesota and hold a Bachelors in Fine Art from the College of Visual Arts in Saint Paul MN.
