Odin's Ravens in dynamic beeswax encaustic.
As a painter I use luminous layering and dynamic textures to enroll the viewer in the constantly occurring creation of now. From the shores of the Salish Sea to distant nebula and stars my figurative images of the natural world strive to be gateways to the abstract mysteries of the unknown. I use an encaustic technique with beeswax reinforced with damar resin. This ancient medium generates a holographic experience in an organic medium that is created by the work of thousands of bees visiting millions of blossoms. The damar resin in the medium gives rigidity, strength and a higher melting point to the beeswax. The paintings are created on hollow core door panels which are lightweight and durable as well as beautiful. The grain of the wood is allowed to show through as an integral part of the painting. The beeswax is a natural preservative which permeates the wood. There are encaustic paintings on wood that have retained their brilliance for over 1800 years. These paintings are created to bring natural rhythms and beauty into your living or workspace for years to come.
