I wanted to do a series of pieces that explore the use of negative space.
I believe that darkness is just as, if not more, powerful than color and light.
By painting a canvas with a seascape and then only allowing portions of it to show through, what the eye sees is a shark. But really, that shark, is just the subtraction of darkness.
More pieces in this series are coming!
My name is Cameron West and I'm an actor, producer, writer, musician and artist living in Los Angeles. I see the beauty in every day life and I want others to see it too. That's why I have my hands in so many different genres; to reach as many people as possible. From an early age I was fascinated by the way that colors and shapes, in different combinations, could elicit different responses from different people; one person might see a a red box as a wagon, while another might see it as a barn. The wagon brings about a feeling of whimsical youth while the barn brings about a feeling of every life on a farm...and yet, the red box is just a red box...or is it? It's these types of questions that keep me busy. What I see might be what you see, but it might be something else entirely. That's why I LOVE art. It's all subjective and there is no right or wrong. Art imitates life which imitate art. It's a wonderful circle. WILL COMMISSION CUSTOM PIECES! :))
