After discovering that I could make my friends laugh with my cartoons in college, I started painting after graduation.
Over time I experimented with different themes, different mediums and my work evolved over time. Eventually, I became more of a painter than a cartoonist. I often feel the evolution of the work is the most fascinating aspect of being a visual artist.
My biggest influences are Schiele, Goya, Hess and Rubens. The ones that made me think; the ones that captured my attention… the ones that had something to say.
Currently, my focus is on the creation of impactful image that have something to say.
Brian Shaughnessy Art Story I grew up in a house full of books. I spent hours staring at the art books. My favorites were about Art History, the Renaissance, Impressionism and Early American Art. My biggest influences are Schiele, Goya, Hess and Rubens. Their work captured my attention and has always struck a chord with me … their images had something important to “say”. I didn't start painting until my late twenties. Over the years I've experimented with different themes and mediums. I often feel the evolution of the work is the most rewarding aspect of being a visual artist.
