Ready to Hang
We live in our own heads, trapped by bone and thought. To connect with another requires us to move beyond the cell of the scull, to touch, tentatively, to send messages out on the waves, equally dreading and desperately wanting the reply.
This piece is about the risk, and hope, of potential love.
This is a (mostly) watercolor on canvas. Not a typical medium, but layer after layer of paint creates a jeweled and stormy finish that no oil can hope to replicate!
I have always viewed artists as people who have a unique perspective of the world that they share with us. That the art is the culmination of keen insight and rare comprehension of who we are and where we're going. Guideposts along the dimly-lit path of our lives as mere mortals. That view, I have come to realize, does not apply to me. My art is not the result of great insight but the process of my own self-discovery. As such, I begin each piece with hours of contemplation. My goal is to capture an emotion, a perspective, or simply the ideal of something into a single image. So, I sketch. And re-sketch. And re-sketch some more. As the concept develops I let it marinate in my mind. Then, at long last, I paint. My hope is that a small handful of people will connect with my work, whether for a few seconds between finger-swipes or years to come as owners. Should you chose to donate wall space to my vision, please know that I am both humbled and ecstatic.
