Sometimes I just like to create a piece that purely reflects what I'm attracted to at the time, "Urban Garden" is one of those pieces. The title is a reflection of how I see this current trend of juxtaposing soft florals against bold stripes.
I created this piece as a free form meditation. The flowers are a sort of nondescript, vaguely reminiscent of my favorite flower, gardenias. This piece has actually taken many different forms.
It all started with the rabbit. I knew I wanted to create a rabbit spirit animal, and the idea of creating a metal rabbit seemed intriguing. In the Chinese zodiac each sign passes through a different element in a select year. 2011 was the year of the metal rabbit. Strengths include: intuition, honor, loyalty, luxury, serious, shrewd. Weaknesses include: private, guarded, hesitant, lacks self confidence.
Although this piece was started in the summer of 2014 it came to completion during the summer of 2015. I think when a piece sits with an artist for so long it has a stronger energy signature to it. I feel this piece represents the transition I have made over the last year of strengthening my intuition as well as my desire to delve deeper and really master self trust.
This piece has no hanging hardware or frame, but it would look great propped on a shelf or easel (it would also look great framed).
