I created this piece when I was desiring to know that I could feel redemption, grace, and hope regardless of my circumstances and the situations I was facing. I wanted to be able to melt into beauty, hold onto hope, and see promises come to pass. I desired for peace to be a greater reality than the chaos that was going on around and within me. I wanted to be present, to just be, to trust that love could and would conquer all, and that my heart would be healed. This painting reminds me of promises raining down and therefore creating this lush, green, abundant place that I could just rest in. This painting is a soft place to land. It is a place of light, love, and hope. It embodies courage...sweetly inspiring me to believe that dreams can still come true and to hold onto the promises.
“My passion is to create images that illicit a memory, a place, a time, a moment, a melody or even an unmet desire. The goal is that when someone views one of my pieces it engenders thoughts of a place in which that person would want to live…home. When a viewer comments on one of my paintings saying, ‘I want to live in that place. . .I want to live there,’ I know that what needed to be accomplished in this outward form of expression indeed was.”
Ellis uses many layers of paint in her work resulting in a rich, dense, surface with a dreamlike appearance. Enchanting in its simplicity, Ellis endeavors to create a world where grace transforms reality into an inviting and peaceful environment. By combining light subtle tones with intense color variations Ellis imbues her work with depth and a mystical quality.
