This painting is part of a series called "Covered". The theme relates to light covering up darkness, having someone else's righteousness cover up and erase our evil. The contrast of the inky, chaotic strokes of the background and the soft, controlled washes of the figure in the foreground speak to this theme. The new light is worn as a protective, enveloping piece of clothing, giving new identity to the wearer.
The background was created using ink, salt, and alcohol. The figure was painted with watercolor on paper then cut out and pasted, creating a three-dimensional effect.
I'm a watercolor artist currently living and working in San Francisco. I work mostly on paper, but on canvas and with 3-dimensional pieces occasionally. My work focuses on introspection and solitude through the use of the figure.
