Before the Sunset is a title that came about when I was cutting grass and saw this wonderful gleam from the sun. I was inspired by the way that the greens were brightened and the rest of the colors were muted by the suns brightness. It was like nothing else mattered but the sun and the green grass. This painting was painted in 2012 at the beginning of summer in Virginia.
My name is Avon Miles jr. I am a Vango artist. I first picked up a brush and began to paint when he was four years old. I graduated from Hopewell High School. I have an associate’s degree in graphic arts and communication from ITT Technical Institute. I held other jobs after high school and made art on the side. I joined the U.S. Navy in 2003 as a corpsman, or a hospital medic. He served for about eight years before being honorably discharged in 2011. During my time serving in the military, I won first place in the Naval Women’s Day poster contest in 2009 and two flag contest “I won more awards for being an artist in the Navy than anything medical,”. While in high school, I won third place in the 1994 Congressional Art Competition and second place in the Petersburg Area Art League Student Art Award. Since returning to Hopewell in 2011, I have become full-time artists and have opened a art space called Selim Nova Art Studio which I co own with my beautiful wife Tessie, we have been producing commissioned work for businesses and individuals for over two decades. Thank you for visiting my portfolio.
