Ready to Hang
Memory; Loss; Displacement; Isolation
A sea of nostalgia and fragmented truths, thought only in privacy
waiting as a silent observer.
I am left in vacancy.
A mark on the page becomes a symbol and a figure an icon. Through veils of information-- space, history, memory, displacement, intimacy, homosexuality, and social inequalities a collection begins. The environment on the page projects the disenfranchisement and impositions that one is left to live by day to day.Translucent planes, objects, and figures overlay each other to emphasize the permeability, fragility, and preciousness of memory and situation.
The surface has become an experiment of layers, dissecting my thoughts and opinions. I paint with shellacs and draw with silverpoint, silkscreen and chine collé, collage and print are all used in the creation of imagery. Obsession flows through pattern and process from scraps, papers, handmade repetitions, and tedious drawings, as means to control and compensates for the lack of one has in reality.
Then I revisit, augment, gather, recontextualize, and repeat.
