I am studying to become a professional oil painter with a focus on the landscape (natural, rural, urban). I am drawn to subject matter that explores Light, Color, Mood and Human Narratives. I am influenced by the contemporary impressionistic and painterly style of painting with emphasis on design, paint application, brushwork, and edge control.
I strive to capture the beauty and 'feel' of a time, place or thing in my paintings.
My name is Aruna Rao. I am a Vango artist. Thank you for visiting my portfolio. My first introduction to Western art was through books on French impressionist paintings. Though I did not have an academic background in painting, I was so inspired that I started to dabble in oils and found joy in painting. However, I could not pursue it further as I got preoccupied with my career and other life events. I immigrated to the US in 1996 and worked in the Information Technology industry for around 20 years. In 2013, I decided to get back to painting and take my artistic interests further. I enrolled in the MFA (Painting) program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California and since 2015, I have been focussing full time on my study and development as an artist. I am currently working on my MFA thesis (Capturing Beauty of Light in the Landscape) and will be graduating in 2018. I live in the Detroit suburbs of Michigan with my husband and my three adorable cats.
