Ever since I can remember, I have been fascinated by the beautiful depiction of light in a painting. Capturing that elusive beauty of light and mood in a scene is the very essence and inspiration behind my paintings. I primarily work in landscape because I am inspired by the natural beauty and elements of the outdoors. Within the landscape, I am often drawn to the quieter moments and scenes of rural and urban life, and strive to find the interesting or extraordinary in the ordinary. Through continued study, practice and experimentation, I impart to my paintings not only a sense of light but also the ability to transport the viewer to a place and time that is both beautiful and meaningful.
My name is Aruna Rao. I am a Vango artist. Thank you for visiting my portfolio. My first introduction to Western art was through books on French impressionist paintings. Though I did not have an academic background in painting, I was so inspired that I started to dabble in oils and found joy in painting. However, I could not pursue it further as I got preoccupied with my career and other life events. I immigrated to the US in 1996 and worked in the Information Technology industry for around 20 years. In 2013, I decided to get back to painting and take my artistic interests further. I enrolled in the MFA (Painting) program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California and since 2015, I have been focussing full time on my study and development as an artist. I am currently working on my MFA thesis (Capturing Beauty of Light in the Landscape) and will be graduating in 2018. I live in the Detroit suburbs of Michigan with my husband and my three adorable cats.
