I specializes in vibrant landscapes and cityscapes. Being an accomplished artist who has sold paintings to collectors in Chicago, NYC, and LA Jeff's art combines impressionistic style with unique interpretations of perspective and space due to his autism and early childhood brain trauma. He recalls the first time he realized that art could be an escape from the real world. He specializes in vibrant landscapes and cityscapes. Jeff started art lessons at age 12. He paints in Watercolors, Oil, Ink and Acrylics using hand stretched canvas or 3/4 inch boards. He has been compared to known German and Austrian artists.and his paintings draw from both his formal schools, as well as real life experiences living and surviving in the squats of NYC. His paintings reflect both the danger and beauty of the L.E.S., as well as the dreams and fantasies he created in his mind to escape and survive the day to day violence and hardships he experienced as a struggling artist in NYC

My name is J L Brandt. I am a Vango artist. Thank you for visiting my portfolio. J L Brandt is a painter and punk rock musician who was diagnosed at the age of 48 with autism and early childhood brain trauma. He lived most of his life never understanding why he interpreted the world differently than others around him. His unique interpretations of spatial relationships, colors, and perspective create impressionistic inspired landscape and cityscape paintings which demonstrate that no two people really see things the same way - that reality is in fact not objective, but observed and interpreted through each individual’s own eyes, complex wiring, and experiences. Jeff studied art at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1982 before moving to the Lower East Side of NYC to pursue his musical aspirations. He became the lead singer and lyricist for one of NYC’s first street punk bands, Public Nuisance. Jeff’s cityscape art is reflective of the danger, violence, creativity and intense individualism that exploded on the LES in the mid-80’s. His landscape paintings represent escapes from the city’s intensity into almost dreamlike respites. Jeff’s paintings are acrylic, oil or watercolors on hand stretched canvases or hand cut boards.
