ALEX FISCHER (b. 1986, Canada) is an artist living and working in Toronto. His practice constitutes digital-image making as an extension of traditional artistic media. While he considers himself a painter by trade, his paintings are made entirely in Photoshop. He scans and downloads source material and then uses a riot of techniques to cut up, layer, and collage together wholly new portraits and landscapes. These images, printed and framed as archival quality limited editions, are meant to blur the borders between media, challenge the viewers expectations, and let people enter into conversations about our culture and nature.
Fischer’s work has been exhibited internationally, including a solo presentation at VOLTANY, inclusion in Angell Gallery’s survey of influential digital artist as well as Art Mûr’s exhibition of new Canadian painters. His work is also featured in noted private and corporate collections including Statoil, TD Bank Group and BNY Mellon Bank.
Artworks featured at Art 4 Ball pop-up gallery at NBA All-Star Weekend 2016 in Toronto, Canada.
