Curator's Note: This piece is both enchanting and surreal, as a seemingly unnatural experience takes place in nature's scenery. The title describes the scene and conveys the idea that the light has a presence. The idea for this piece originated while walking in the woods. The light coming through the trees made me think of this fantasy scene where the light contains a presence. I chose to depict a woman in a nightgown who may be dreaming the experience...but I leave the interpretation to the viewer. To convey the presence of a higher power in the rays of light, I have shown the woman levitating from the encounter, adding to the dreamlike quality.

Artist Statement About His Imaginative Realism Paintings... During the last few years, I've rekindled my love of reading imaginative fiction. This has led to paintings of imaginative works of art. These works are free of art direction and constraints of modern illustration. The paintings have more in common with the 19th century pre-Raphaelite painters. While I continue to paint traditional paintings from life for galleries and clients, I've decided to take what I've learned and apply that to some imaginative works based on my own ideas or from stories I've read over the years. I show this work at IlluXCon, the premiere venue for this kind of painting. These paintings represent my duel interest in Plein Air and Imaginative painting. The reason I create these pieces can be as simple as capturing an effect of light or a reason to express a human emotion---fear, love, joy, etc. In this sense, my work has more in common with 19th Century Narrative painting than Contemporary Illustration.
