Ready to Hang

Malcolm X articulated a message of racial justice that made him far ahead of his time. He believed the black struggle for civil rights must be expanded to the level of human rights: “You spend so much time barking up the civil-rights tree, you don’t even know there’s a human-rights tree on the same floor.”

“Civil rights means you’re asking Uncle Sam to treat you right. Human rights are something you were born with.”

Regardless of his militant image, the heritage of Malcom X remains a permanent source for many civil rights advancements still made today.

The painting continues around the edges, so it is ready to hang unframed.

ICONS OF ICONS. Antti Eklund paints iconic portraits of iconic people and things. Said of Antti Eklund: "Francis Bacon coming on Andy Warhol with Keith Haring watching, a touch of Gerhard Richter and a splash of Martial Raysse, a squeeze of Yan Pei-Ming, a drop of Marlene Dumas. But, no - genuine Antti Eklund." Antti Eklund paints with oil on canvas. He also experiments with exclusive finishes like 24 karat gold leaf and oxidized copper. The 24 karat gold leaf reflects power and the spirit of classical religious "icon" paintings while illuminating the superfluous illusion we all have of ourselves. Born in Finland and trained as an Architect the former Professor of Graphic Communication has had an internationally award winning career in design before committing himself fully to art. Antti Eklund lives permanently in Baltimore, MD, USA. See more at eklundartfactory.com
