This painting was done on a well-lit weekend in the West Village. We were sitting in a little park and the way this guy was sitting looked so comfortable. It was as if he were to stay for while.
For this piece I wanted to keep the shape language relatively simple and decorative, reminiscent of folk art.
Hi all. I currently live and work in New York as a character designer in feature animation. I am a recent alum of the Animation/Illustration program from San Jose State. During that time, I've exhibited a piece in the Society of Illustrators and was awarded the Maurice and Marjorie Noble Scholarship in 2009. I find inspiration in a range of things- from the natural world, to fashion, to dreams. Presently, being near New York City and encountering a constant flow of quirky personalities and styles has been a major influence on my work. As of late, I've been loving exploration with mixed media- watercolors, pencil, and black ink
