This painting was done in 4 different sessions. It is the 3rd and also the largest painting so far in a series of pieces that I am doing of the Cheakamus river in Whistler Canada. For this one, I sat out on some boulders that jutted out into the river. It was quite an interesting spot to paint because I was really surrounded by the raging waters which were quite intense. Every once and while the water would splash up from the rapids and startle me and splash onto my canvas. Overall peaceful, and invigorating experience.
I am a contemporary Canadian artist working and living in Whistler, BC, Canada. My body of work extends across many different subjects and mediums. I was a drawing major in art school, after which I moved into oil painting for a number of years and for the last 4 years have been focusing primarily on stone sculpture. Nature and people have always been consistent themes in my work and over the past few years, I have also been drawing a lot of inspiration from the animal kingdom. I do find I like to have a balance in my work of both realism as well as expression and interpretation. I have shown my work in various different venues from galleries to museums to alternative spaces and have my art in collections around the world.
