My work shows were I come from, even though I moved from Dominican Republic to Chicago. I still get inspired by the beautiful colors of my country.
Ambar Gil was born in Nashua, New Hampshire. Raised in Dominican Republic. She developed an interest for art at a young age and since then, that has been her passion. Her parents acknowledged her precocity in art, and supported and guided her on this artist path. At the age of 9, she started painting classes with an artist named Sonia Sanchez in her town, La Romana. She attended Sonia's house for these classes from 2000-2008, and during her final year exhibited all of her art from the past 8 years, showcasing her evolution as an artist. Ambar has always been known for her harmonies and bold use of colors. She also learned from other artists in her town such as Fernando Tamburini and attended Altos de Chavon. After high school, Ambar continued her education with short stops at Boston's MassArt and Puerto Rico's Polytechnic University, before ultimately settling down in Chicago. In Chicago, she attended School of the Art Institute of Chicago: SAIC where she completed her BFA.
