Ready to Hang
This painting is done in many layers - an earlier layer was almost all metallic so that when the colors were laid over it little bits of metallic glow show through. Paint was put down with various knives and often scraped off in places. The process is intuitive until it's finished. The green is really emerald and the brighter red is cadmium but it seems impossible to duplicate the colors with photography and a computer screen. It has painted sides and can be hung unframed.
I am a self-taught artist who has been painting and learning for around 50 years. In addition to high school art classes I've learned by doing, failing, observing and studying various books by a number of artists. I was born in St. Augustine, Florida and as a teenager lived next to a successful artist whose studio I enjoyed seeing and who gave me various pointers. St. Augustine is the oldest city in the US and a very "artsy" place. I have lived a number of other places, all of which added inspiration to be creative in their own way. In Florida I was a charter member of the local art league and exhibited and sold paintings in their venues, at a local state park's art shop, restaurants and even windows in the local mall as well as online. My husband and I are retired and we recently moved to Spring City, Tennessee, which is quaint and surrounded by mountains. We live on a hill with a view of the lake and mountains so even going outside is an inspiration. I hope that my art is something that adds beauty and joy to the lives of those that have my paintings, which are in collections around the United States as well as Canada and England.
