Certain metals, when left outside in the elements will oxidize or rust into various interesting shapes, textures and colors. This painting is part of the "weathered and worn" series which focuses on the special beauty in aged surfaces. It was done intuitively in layers with scraping, addition of sand in some places, acrylic paints and mediums and some acrylic and alcohol inks. There are some metallic accents that can't be seen in the photo and actually the painting appears a tad brighter in person. Photo may not show it to advantage. Painted sides on canvas. Ready to hang.
I am a self-taught artist who has been painting and learning for around 50 years. In addition to high school art classes I've learned by doing, failing, observing and studying various books by a number of artists. I was born in St. Augustine, Florida and as a teenager lived next to a successful artist whose studio I enjoyed seeing and who gave me various pointers. St. Augustine is the oldest city in the US and a very "artsy" place. I have lived a number of other places, all of which added inspiration to be creative in their own way. In Florida I was a charter member of the local art league and exhibited and sold paintings in their venues, at a local state park's art shop, restaurants and even windows in the local mall as well as online. My husband and I are retired and we recently moved to Spring City, Tennessee, which is quaint and surrounded by mountains. We live on a hill with a view of the lake and mountains so even going outside is an inspiration. I hope that my art is something that adds beauty and joy to the lives of those that have my paintings, which are in collections around the United States as well as Canada and England.
