Creativity is life!
To me art is about beauty and I love to see color, texture and shape all work together to create an interesting but also beautiful work. I paint because if I find life has gotten in the way and I'm not painting something is missing that creates frustration and unrest. I find it hard not to resent the need for rather mundane tasks that take away my time although there are other important things in life also that I would not want to neglect and they can actually be an inspiration in themselves.
I find my processes for creating a painting change from time to time and have a need for variety or everything becomes stale and boring, so I truly can't stick to just one type of painting - traditional landscapes, more impressionistic ones and some a bit abstract all tend to excite me and I often find that creating something purely non-representational is also enjoyable as long as I see beauty in it.
Some of my work is pure painting with oils or acrylics to create more traditional paintings which have always been my first love. With others I also incorporate collage, various mediums and gels and even metallic accents which show many layers, depth and textures that often have to be seen in person. These are done intuitively over time and tend to be more abstract. Artists almost always tend to evolve over time.
I am a self-taught artist who has been painting and learning for around 50 years. In addition to high school art classes I've learned by doing, failing, observing and studying various books by a number of artists. I was born in St. Augustine, Florida and as a teenager lived next to a successful artist whose studio I enjoyed seeing and who gave me various pointers. St. Augustine is the oldest city in the US and a very "artsy" place. I have lived a number of other places, all of which added inspiration to be creative in their own way. In Florida I was a charter member of the local art league and exhibited and sold paintings in their venues, at a local state park's art shop, restaurants and even windows in the local mall as well as online. My husband and I are retired and we recently moved to Spring City, Tennessee, which is quaint and surrounded by mountains. We live on a hill with a view of the lake and mountains so even going outside is an inspiration. I hope that my art is something that adds beauty and joy to the lives of those that have my paintings, which are in collections around the United States as well as Canada and England.
