Ready to Hang

I am inspired by the 70s, sailors, motorcycles and my family. I currently live in Des Moines, Iowa, to be close to family after spending 20 years in the South. I started using oils on canvas, with brush or knife, several years ago while studying with a local Iowa artist. I prefer modern, abstract and expressionism styles. I seem to have the most fun painting images from my youth with acrylic on canvas.

This piece is inspired by Frank Zappa’s unconventional career. Frank turned the “normal” into the “absurd” with a subtle sense of humor.

The canvas is stretched over a wood frame. The paint is dripped and poured. Hanging wire is installed.

My name is James Osborn. I am a Vango artist. I am also a sailor, and a motorcycle enthusiast. Thank you for visiting my portfolio.
