This is one of a group of pastel figure drawings on paper I created while attending life drawing groups where artists shared models. I found that drawing in soft pastel on mid-toned Canson Mi Tientes was the best way for me to capture 20 minute poses. These drawings were done in Los Angeles. I drew this one at a local artist's studio.
I have been painting and drawing seriously since 1987. I employ visual art, including painting, drawing, and photography, as a medium for personal exploration.I took many art classes in college in the 60s, but at that time my focus was on writing. After my daughter was born, I had a hunger for silence--literal and metaphorical. I engaged in a spiritual search, but nothing was satisfying until I started to paint. I was amazed when dealers showed an interest in my early works. I started attending uninstructed drawing groups at Barnsdall Art Center in LA. I stayed away from teachers, Since the beginning I have worked in series. My pieces inform one another. Two of my major series include a group of paintings of the Arroyo Seco Bridges (Pasadena, CA) and a smaller set of works based on cross-bedded sandstones in Walnut Canyon (AZ). (My profile picture was taken at a winery in Palisade, Colorado near my home in the Grand Valley)
