Signed and numbered by artist A K Nicholas. We see what appears to be simultaneously underwater and above the clouds, an unclad woman swimming or perhaps flying. The serpentine lines of the body are juxtaposed with the random crinkling of light filtering through the surface of the water, billowing clouds, and rising bubbles. The color blue predominates the composition, the figure standing out in warm contrast.
Her arms reach backward, fingers outstretched as she propels herself forward into the empty space.
A K Nicholas was born in the United States and raised in the Middle East. Always at ease with visual expression, as a second generation artist, childhood included exposure to galleries and museums in dozens of countries. Although formally trained in painting and drawing, he chose photography as best suited to convey his ideas. "I feel the most successful images leave the viewer either unsure or unconcerned as to the precise process of production."
