Ready to Hang
I started painting 5 years ago, always after midnight, after I would arrive home from my chef's job. It started a series of images I penned "Insomniac series". I began with 3 by 5 inch canvas boards and sometimes cardboard; gradually increasing in size to 4 by 6, 8 by 10, 11 by 14, & 16 by 20. I reached my "Insomniac #151", then headed off into another direction. My concept involved what we know about our 'mind's eye'; except I flipped it around. My vision for the work that was to follow, was an idea about the image the viewer might see, if they were to peer through my iris into my mind.
I paint what I feel at that moment when I lift my palette knife: anger, sadness, joy, frustration & sometimes emptiness. Every stroke of the surface represents a thought or single inflection; as I share a part of my soul in every finished piece.
I am a 37 y.o. chef living in Providence, RI with my wife and our kitty Gaby. I was raised by my parents for the first 23 years of my life in Meriden, CT. I also moonlight as a singer-songwriter when I can. I practice Nicheren Buddhism & hope that the day arrives when I can put down my chef's knives & don my palette knives for the rest of my existence within this universe.
